When it arrived I was so happy. It was beautiful to look at and it was so helpful. I have 5 knives that I use all the time and they are perfect for this. Bamboo is wonderful. The magnet held the knives in place. Then winter came, the house dried up, and gaps appeared between the strips of bamboo. It looks like the "block" is cracking. My husband, an engineer, explained what was wrong with the way it was put together and said it would likely swell (although not close) in wet weather. Knives always come back to the block clean and dry. I'm not worried about contamination, it's just that they don't look as stunning anymore. never give as a wedding present. It's a great idea, but after a few months it might look awful and cheap and you'll feel bad about it. ready.
