I use this for cross stitching. That works great. I attached it to the Lowery rack. The hand keeps its position. A good magnification range - 2.25x allows me to work with 36x lines. LEDs are great! Really illuminates everything you want to see. I don't need my ceiling light when using this. I can easily remove the flip cover during use. It's easy to put on - just gently press the tab to put the cap back on. Just remember that you must keep it closed when not in use. Using it near a window allows the sun to enter an open magnifying glass and illuminate everything under the lens (your sofa, chair, rug, etc.)! The only problem I have with this lamp is the swivel head with ball joint. There is a notch in the ball joint (where the arm attaches to the loupe), be careful when adjusting the loupe to the angle you want to see. It will easily get out of control. It's still attached with the wire, you just need to thread the notch back into the magnifier head. It's kind of a pain in that aspect. But other than that, it's a great backlit magnifier.
