Review on Milwaukee Mi56P Replaceable Electrode Temperature Probe: Precision and Convenience in Temperature Measurement by Keith Samuel

Short life, suitable for analytical instruments

Three probes and an average life of 2 months per probe. Light use, proper storage and cleaning, and calibration by tech support and I just can't get more than 2 months of stability. It's very accurate while running, but then slowly drifts and loses calibration. Very worrying as you cannot be sure of the accuracy of the readings as they tend to slowly lose their accuracy even immediately after calibration. The price is attractive, but replacing it every two months is expensive. I also wasted quite a bit of their expensive calibration solution trying to calibrate it and determine when it died. I also spent a lot of time with tech support. Their tech support is very good and they really try to help, but I think this sensor or even the entire gauge is overdue for tech work. I also found it difficult to use as a portable device as there is no easy way to keep the probe in solution during transport. Seems silly that there isn't a lid for this to hold the storage solution. There's no point in continuing this farce. I switched to the Myron brand I bought when they started drifting again. To this day, three months later, the Myron has retained its deadly accuracy and speed, and even has a handy lid for a storage solution.

Pros
  • Snaps into a holder that screws into the meter body to ensure a secure fit
Cons
  • Expensive
