After 12 years and several moves I finally needed to replace my desktop speakers. So I compare to what I had before, which is older. Sound Quality: They will suffice. The bottom end through the subwoofer is rather muffled, not very deep and doesn't go well with the music itself. There's a control for adding more "bass" which doesn't really add much until you turn the bass all the way down and then one notice difference. The desktop's main speakers produce a fairly clear sound, but without a subwoofer they sound completely insignificant. This setting works well enough for most music, but is probably best for easy ACC, country, jazz, pop, or anything in between, and not too heavy. Anything with a strong bass line including some top 40, hip hop, hard rock, this set lacks that beat. Switch, bass level, headphone jack and aux jack. From there it connects to the subwoofer via a 3.5mm connector. The subwoofer then connects and powers the entire device. It's an interesting design that removes the controls from the speakers themselves, freeing up the speaker both practically and cosmetically. The controls are quite simple. The module itself didn't fit through the cable hole on my desk, so I had to get creative with routing the cable so it didn't irritate my eyes or get in the way. Volume is controlled from the top of the module on a simple wheel that just works. It doesn't have a mute button on it which isn't a big deal, just turn the volume down but it seems like in the middle of the module you just press it and the sound mutes. But that's not so important. The pod will be the biggest thing to get used to. I like that the wheel is big enough and simple enough that I don't have to try to use the little volume knob on the speaker anywhere. for mobile desktop speakers (well) are quite expensive, so it's an affordable option, which is one of the main reasons I went with it. Setup was very easy and plug and play is easy. I chose a basic package because it was cheaper but very basic at the same time. I wouldn't even mess with traditional packaging. All in all: If you are a music lover looking for clear and rich sound, this system is not for you. There is no quality in general. The bottom end is just filler, and a bad one at that. The desktop speakers cover the high frequencies fairly well, making it feel like you have a pair of tweeters and a subwoofer. Whether you're looking for background music for your day or just watching videos, this should be for you. The old adage is "you get what you pay for" and that applies to this set. Not flashy, not great, it's like driving a Chevy Cavalier, it gets you there, but it's not flashy or special.
