Please note the temporary pin that comes with the kit (do not remove until your cable is fully connected at all points). This is not only a predetermined position of the degree mark for adjusting the brakes to slip, but also for unlocking the automatic adjustment. When the automatic adjuster is released, the rope can be pulled forwards far enough for the free end to hook into the first coupling under the vehicle. With the equalizer adjuster fully loosened, my cable did not reach the clutch until I installed the pin and held the adjuster's internal spring down until the pin was seated. I was then able to fully rotate the inner cable cam to ensure there was enough cable length under the car. The release cable was a bit tight due to the seal. I can't remember how tight the original was. I replaced this unit because our original brake cable snapped at the very end, not due to a release cable issue like some other people have commented. Removing the top two mounting nuts is the trickiest part. Be sure to prepare extension cords or swivels. Opening the crimped steel cable lug under the footrest wasn't fun either, but a pair of powerful pliers did the trick. Installed for over a month with no problems.
