I had industrial equipment connected via RS232 with a USB laptop adapter to a laptop about 50 feet away. I've had many issues with laptop freezing or COM port/USB issues related to this connection. I just put this unit next to my laptop with RS232 and no more problems. This is a very quick, cheap and amazing solution. The device is somehow magically powered by communications - no need for external isolated power supplies. Works perfectly. I'm using mine at 19.2 kbaud, but it's designed for a much higher speed.
