I've had this stone for a long time, here it is. Firstly, it's made of stone, so chips and dents are quite normal. If you want the perfect stone you will spend a lot more. Second, I don't use oil, I soak it in a glass of water for a minute or two. Put it on some towels and start practicing. I use edge tracking, which means I guide with the cutting edge, not a rod or blunt end. Ten or twelve passes at a fairly sharp angle on the rough side and then the same amount on the thin side. Don't start with your grandfather's best knife, practice with a cheap kitchen knife and work your way up. I have used this stone to sharpen axes, knives, scissors. he does everything. In the near future I will switch to more beautiful stones. This stone is ABSOLUTELY capable of creating a blade that easily shaves the hair off my arms and legs and is as sharp as a knife should be, but I'm curious to see how much better I can make it.
