VERY INACCURATE - Thermometer

I have an old digital thermometer that takes the temperature in 5 minutes so I'd like to replace it with something quick. I tested this thermometer on myself on a normal, healthy day, when the old digital showed I had 98.6, this one showed I had 97.7. I took my temperature several times throughout the day and never got above 98. It just seems dangerous at this point so I returned it. I've read great reviews. I just dud?
