I've printed about a dozen discs with the Z1 so I feel entitled to give a small review. First let me say that for the price this little disk printer does a great job. Anyone complaining about text being erased must be doing something wrong as you really have to rub your finger over it to make it smear. And even right after printing. A few notes about packaging: 1. Print quality is excellent unless you are printing very small type or complex graphics. Turning the thrust washer in all 4 areas works flawlessly.2. There is no fixed on/off switch. So if you don't want it to work every time you turn on your computer, you'll have to unplug the power or USB port. No big deal.3. The printing software is easy to understand but a bit clunky. For example, if you want to enlarge the entire window to see what you're doing, click the Zoom In button, but each click makes almost no difference. In addition, the software requires the installation of the .NET Framework. Now I don't understand why any printer needs to be installed, but unfortunately it is necessary. The bad news is that installing .NET on a Windows XP single-user computer results in you having to click your name at boot time to log in, whereas previously when you turned on the computer it only went to the desktop. The good news is that you can delete the guest account you created and the disc printing program will still work fine.4. I have several types of discs that I have tried with the printer and the ones with a matte finish are definitely inferior to the smooth super glossy ones. Matte coated discs result in text that is not actually black. The edges look a bit blurry and the fill isn't solid. Now, with a different style of disc, smooth super glossy discs (shiny silver on the writing surface and a smooth smooth transparent layer on top), printing is much, much better. It borders on professional looking text. (The text itself, not what the printer as a whole can do)5. The ability to save disc themes is great and works flawlessly. Almost everything else about the print app is easy to understand. Overall, I'm very happy with the Z1. It suits my needs perfectly. And compared to the cheaper Casio printer, this one seems to have a lower cost per disc due to the interchangeable cartridges.
