Review on Coleman 16 Quart Excursion Cooler Blue by James Townsend

When it comes to coolers, size matters

Larger coolers work better. It's important to note that in addition to a larger volume allowing them to "hold more cold" (thermal mass), as size increases, volume increases in a cubic function (faster) and surface area (like heat penetrates) in a square increases function (more). slow). Math aside, don't expect miracles. The size is an internal constraint. If you fill it about half full with cargo (pre-chilled food and drinks) and half full with cold (ice or ice packs), expect about 24 hours of operation. You could of course increase this if you chose 1/3 and 2/3 instead. I usually add cold 6 packs with a bottle of frozen water and a few large ice packs. This backlit ice setup keeps the chill on my side in the evening and usually all that's left when I wake up is still 40-50 degrees. When filled to the brim with mostly dense ice/liquids, the handle bends noticeably. , which seems like an obvious weakness. Time will tell I think.
