Good pads for chilly mornings or high speed stops on hot days

We bought these pads to replace worn PBR ULTs (similar to Axxis pads, 109.04350, Ultimate brake pads. Axxis/PBR pads were a favorite Some of North America's most knowledgeable brake gurus have long made the choice for high-performance road use: StopTech's Tim Kelsch, Zeckhausen Racing's Dave Zeckhausen and UUC Motorwerks' Rob Levinson; but Axxis and PBR seem to be making their cuts in ULT sales North America these days and the braking gurus have basically switched to StopTech Street Performance pads as a successor/replacement for the ULT, so have we done a hilly, rainy and cool climate for several months of the year (morning temperatures are often in the mid to 30s Fahrenheit) in the middle of winter) and the OEM ceramic compound pads, which were excellent during warm-up, took a few minutes of testing on a chilly morning to warm up to operating temperature, which made our descent overly exciting. The ULTs solved this problem by providing excellent initial traction even in cold weather and excellent cushioning characteristics under hard pressure even during repeated high-speed stops on hot summer days. Add to that a very linear and progressive pedal feel and you have a great pad. But the ULTs left a lot of black dust on the wheels and wore out the rotors pretty quickly. The StopTech Street Performance pads tested here appear to share the good qualities of the ULT they replaced. They have good grip on cold mornings and while we haven't pushed them to their limits yet, when cruising hard at high speed on hot summer days they seem to have the same good burn performance as the ULTs they replaced. Pedal feel is very linear and progressive, but subjectively the StopTech pads seem to require a little more pedal pressure than the ULT to achieve the same rate of deceleration. Overall exemplary performance. It will take us a few thousand more miles to determine if StopTech Street Performance brake pads exhibit the less than desirable ULT properties of heavy dusting and rotor wear, but after the first thousand miles we can say with confidence that they do so for their primary function, the Stopping a car is about short distance and control, the StopTech Street Performance pads are a good choice.
