I bought it because it's not cruel and affordable. I wear full makeup every day and need a powerful toner to remove set and sealed foundation and waterproof mascara. At first I was disappointed when I looked up and looked like Alice Cooper and Gollum's offspring. Instead of removing all of my makeup, it removed the top layer and grotesquely blended into the rest. I then tried washing my face with a scrubbing brush and warm water before adding the cleanser. Viola! It removed all of my makeup from my face and about 95% of my eye makeup. It takes a bit of trial and error, but it's definitely worth it because it cleans well, smells nice, and doesn't take abuse. My fiancé pointed out that he cautions against using it around the eyes, which I learned the hard way. Like any soap, it is not very comfortable when washed off for the eyelids. Overall, I'm glad I tried it and would consider buying it again. There is a "squeaky clean" feeling, but after a little hydration, skin feels great and really cleansed.
