Although the name is misleading - it doesn't make a real espresso - you can get an excellent, strong cup of coffee in a fraction of the work. For many years I have preferred the French Press. While the taste is delicious, I wanted something that made the smaller cup feel less messy without sacrificing strength. This Bialetti hits the mark! It took some trial and error to get a drink that wasn't bitter, but now I can't imagine using anything else. I use medium roast beans, which are a bit coarser than for espresso. It is important to bring the water in the kettle to almost a boil first and then add it to the pot. Starting with room temperature water, the coffee grounds also heat up, giving you a bitter cup. One caveat - the pot is so small that I can only heat it with the internal flame of my stovetop. However, using water that is already hot reduces the actual brewing time to around 2 minutes. Makes 4 ounces of deliciousness.
