I used this product as intended: for cooking on the stove. When I'm cooking, I sometimes leave the spatula face down on the rim of the pan. I thought it might be defective, although the old one I used and ended up replacing with this new one has lasted many, many years despite using it the same way and throwing it away countless times. So I traded the first; the process was relatively painless. A short time after using the second, the same thing happened in exactly the same way. This product is specifically designed for use on a hot surface and for listening to a heat source. This is a device that must withstand heat and not melt (perhaps into food). But it is NOT heat resistant. Stay away from it; This saves you the hassle and time of dealing with a defective product.
