Wrong head and rod threads?

I installed a Kohler Elliston shower set during a bathroom renovation about 4 years ago and decided to add a hand held shower. I checked it out, it looked good and got great reviews, so I ordered it. I removed the shower head. I removed the old teflon tape from the threads on my arm. I put new teflon tape on the threads on the arm. The diverter fits perfectly on the arm, is snug and well aligned. To smile. Then the shower head cannot be screwed into any of the screw connections. At this point I questioned my sanity. I checked my male card and found it was valid and in good condition. Removed the diverter for a closer look as I was still questioning my sanity. A shower head screwed onto the arm is fine. Removed the showerhead from my arm again, put the diverter back in place, put the diverter back on my arm, checked the showerhead to make sure my wife wasn't pranking me. The shower head doesn't screw into the switch in the right place or where the hose for the detachable shower head should be. The thread on the branch seems to be wrong as I can't even get it to work. Remember I said I double checked, the head screws in and out with the lever ok, the deflector screws in and out with the lever ok but the hose and shower head won't go in the screw in the switch. It must be some kind of workmanship error or a bad batch so I will try to return this one and order another one and update accordingly. Was disappointed with the quality control here. I mean, isn't 1/2" NPT the standard for shower enclosures in the United States? Edit 3 days later: The replacement was even worse. The threads are different from the shower head and don't match like the first one, and the female threads do The hand attachments are not machined properly so the hand shower outlet is pointing up and not to the side.I can't push it down and when I loosen it it leaks. What a waste of time with this junk I think all the positive reviews are happier than me.
