I confess that when I was young I was part of a racing team in the Sports2000 class. Later in different club levels SCCA running categories. That means this tool is nothing new to me. I've cut hundreds of race and DOT tires over the years. I was pleased to discover that this new version may be exactly the same as the one I used so much in the 80's. Warms up in ten minutes and stays warm for as long as you need it. The included blades are still amazing, even better than before. You keep the advantage forever, it seems. At least until I hit a rock stuck in a tire. Try to avoid this as it noticeably affects cuttability. Take your time with that first cut, wait for it to get really hot, take your time cutting and you will see nice clean cuts. I bought a new Jeep Wrangler and it came with Goodyear HT tires, mostly deep tread street tires. This tire cutter allowed me to add sipes and grooves to the tread pattern, making the tire more like an all-weather tire. I understand that it will never be a winter tire due to the harder compound, but I'm still happy with the result. Don't be afraid of this tool, it works great.
