I'm mainly looking for a way to use my MacBook Air with an external monitor, a Gigabit Ethernet connection and a USB3 drive for Time Machine backup at the same time, with the convenience of a single cable was also on the wish list. DS1 offers all of this. Display output is fine, Ethernet works fine, replacement hard drive works. I can even leave my headphones plugged into the DS1 and choose to send audio to my speakers or headphones. There is a problem that people need to be aware of. When you turn on the DS1 or wake up with the DS1 plugged in, USB devices that are already plugged in may not be recognized. Matrox reports on their support forum that the issue will be fixed in a future macOS update (current version 10.8.2), which means the issue is related to Apple's Thunderbolt drivers. I work on this by making sure my MacBook is awake before plugging in the Thunderbolt cable and I've had no problems (I don't sleep with the Mac docked). Would I wish it had more than one USB3 port, Firewire port and Thunderbolt pass-through port? Of course. But if that were the case, it would cost more and probably not be delivered yet (like the Belkin dock as of January 2013).
