Review on 🌬️ Frost King VX620 Gutter Guard: 6x20' Plastic Protection at Its Finest by Sam Sergio

Revainrating 4 out of 5

There are two very different versions of this product (UPDATED)

Original rating. Summary: - I don't think there is actually a 5" version available on this site - either the material has changed or there are two products supplied from this site (one more rigid, larger bore; the other more flexible, smaller). net). I prefer the harder version. It's really cheap compared to permanent/true chute helmet products so still a lot better than nothing. Details: I ordered a 6" reel last August when they were very cheap ($2) to try this out I gave it a try and was impressed so I ordered 4 more in December and again was pleased with how easy it was to install and sit securely in my gutters I tie it up no other way than by the elasticity of the material held in the gutter by friction. We had a very strong wind day about a month ago and I expected sections of 3 houses to blow away sen, but none of them moved. I had another gutter section with a little more shingle overhang, so I ordered a 5" version last week to finish the final gutter. Here it goes sideways. it now appears much thinner/narrower so there is less "feather" held in the gutter and the mesh is thinner (more holes per square unit). I installed it the same as the other rollers but clearly lacks the built in flex resistance that keeps the other sections firmly in place. He just lies there. I'll wait and see, but I won't be surprised if he comes on a good impulse and I have to protect him somehow. I can't tell exactly what model number the one ordered earlier was, but my history says it was a VX620, just like this one. It was definitely the Frost King brand. Look at the photos showing the difference in mesh and installation and the tag from my last purchase. Hopefully the sellers can clarify which version of the product they are selling. So if you want the hard drive version or the floppy version, you'll get what you want. UPDATE 9/2019 There are sections that have been around for almost 3 years and have not been moved. We recently had a severe storm that knocked down trees and rain buckets but the entire gutter screen stayed in place. I tested my gutters with a cheap drone instead of climbing the grand staircase and haven't climbed the highest part since installing it. After a big storm I got up to inspect things and the big hole net was big and clean but the finer mesh net sagged and started to clog. I tried taking it off to clean and reinstall but it was rotten and torn. Still a 4 star rating, but again there is a big difference between larger mesh and smaller mesh materials. I'll look for good things on local hardware.

Pros
  • Easy setup
Cons
  • There are other interesting options.
