I followed the tutorial instructions that came with the boots and read online reviews and it worked like a charm. She ran in it for a week. I bought sizes 2 and 3 for my 10 lb Shihpu as her paw sizes were somewhere in between. I will be returning the larger size as the smaller size seems to work. The rear ones fell off a couple of times, but I probably didn't tighten the elastic enough. Planning on buying another pair as she is still young and will chew on it whenever she gets the chance. I don't know how long the rubber bands will last. Keep them out of reach when not in use. They came in a very nice plastic bag with instructions. I am very happy with these boots and would recommend to anyone thinking about buying them.
