Review on UCTRONICS Raspberry Portable Capacitive Touchscreen 5-inch πŸ“ HDMI: Compact and Responsive Display for Raspberry Pi by Gerado Munajj

Revainrating 5 out of 5

wow just wow good for me

I didn't expect that from the device. Bought with a Raspberry Pi expecting to be disappointed. With similar unbranded Chinese products, you don't know what you're getting. I got this before I got my Raspberry Pi so I decided to check for dead pixels and hook it up to my Linux laptop. Also drivers were not needed, they ran out of the box. There was an issue where if I had both my laptop's screen and this touchscreen, touches wouldn't register properly and I suspect there is a setting to fix that, but I haven't looked into it since I still will not use 2 screens. Switching the display to display only on this touchscreen fixed the issue. The picture was clear, the touches were worked out accurately, including multitouch (I tried with 4 fingers, but you can use a big one, I just didn't check). I have my Raspberry Pi and a separate "low profile" USB data cable, it turns out the "low profile" cable is still 0.4"/10mm from the side of the display sticking out. Then (this is my favorite part) I saw that there are solder pads for data and 5V so you don't even need a USB cable. That surprised me and I decided to write this review. The USB cable that comes with the display is pretty good it just works it protrudes about 1.25mm/30mm past the edge of the board this works for device testing but not very aesthetic for sisplay but I won't complain, for this price and what you get it's definitely worth buying. There are two HDMI ports (one 180 degree for rpi 3 and one mini HDMI to HDMI -converter for rpi 4).You need to connect both if you have a rpi 4. Since the HDMI converter is a cable (the cable itself is e about 3.5 inch / 95 mm long including both ends of the connector - 6.8 / 175 mm), you may have difficulty installing rpi 4. behind the screen. As I only use this on rpi 3 you may need to read other reviews for more details. Overall I am a happy customer and may buy more in the future.

  • Works well, easy to use. The large chip on the back gets very hot and sometimes the screen turns off.
