I have three of these working speakers that I use with computers or just in the bathroom and kitchen as handy places to plug in an iPod Shuffle or other small device. I don't use its main docking function for the 30 pin connection. If I were to rate this as a computer speaker as I mainly use it, I would downgrade it one star, maybe two. The reason is the extreme immunity to interference of the electronic volume control. I listen to streaming audio a lot and often adjust the volume due to obnoxiously loud commercials, usually uneven source volume, and to receive phone calls. In addition, the complexity of computer audio sources in general means that unexpected loud noises are common and can disturb others. In these cases, I don't want to mess with screen or keyboard controls. I want to turn down the volume NOW. I think this is particularly frustrating because before we got so sophisticated, volume control for all devices was always simple and instantaneous. It's a bit like the complexity of car stereos compared to the ease and speed of using an old-fashioned analog setup. Of course, these radios are multifunctional, so in addition to inconveniences, we also have advantages. The thing is just a speaker with an amplifier. Much more convenient would be a device with a knob or slider that allows you to instantly adjust the volume.
