Broken DVD recorder

Don't be fooled by my review. This JVC device is phenomenal. I bought my first one about 7 years ago and one day I had to fix it. It's a great car and easy to use once you get the hang of navigating it. My device stopped recognizing drives (personal and commercial) so I decided to buy another device as nobody else fixed this one. Details are no longer available. I found the image quality on this device to be clear and vibrant. However, he did not burn the disc. I tried 3 different brands (all brand new). Usually the device wants to "format" the drive, but this one never did. It appears to be recording, but at the end of the session, when I removed and reinserted the disc, nothing came up. I also got a message that the disk is invalid. Again, this was on brand new discs from three different brands. I ended up having to send it back to Revane. My rating (3 stars) reflects only this particular device. This is not a reflection of that brand or seller. Although I wish the seller would actually try to "burn" the DVD to give a more accurate description as "tested/working". DVD plays well but doesn't record. This was a disappointment as I was moving to a new city and had to copy a lot of the things I had stored on my DVR before returning it to my cable company. I even splurged another $100 on the device to enable recording and bypass the copyright hassle that seems common these days when trying to record from a DVR. I've lost a lot of recordings because this device doesn't record as promised. Despite this, I give the seller and most other devices in this JVC family a good rating. Just make sure the customer is not disappointed by fully checking every component of every device sold.

Pros
  • Great for a small home
Cons
  • Questionable purchase for the elderly
