I bought two of these - the picture quality they produce is excellent on store bought DVDs and very good on DVDs I recorded via cable. The only major downside is that with both, if I burn something onto a DVD-R disc, my Panasonic DVD recorders won't be able to read the disc, whether it's finalized or not.
