Review on AT EL51203 Waiting Cordless Handsets by Paul Lawson

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Ordinary cordless telephone

As I said, a decent cordless phone. Positive aspects: 1. Nice design, attractive and quite ergonomic.2. Backlit keyboard with large numbers, intuitive operation.3. Easy navigation through the menu.4. Good storage - typical 50 phone numbers, 9 speed dials. Directory entries/editing can be done globally from any phone.5. Sufficiently good speakers, good adjustment range.6. Pretty good battery life in use.7. Silent button for call suppression, intercom/conference capability with additional phones, call location. Typical CID, voicemail with telephone service, redial, TIA compliant. Not very positive: 1. Typical V-Tech block design - good value, but honestly good value.2. Limited to 5 phones in total. Some advertising confusion here - you CANNOT "add 5 extra phones". You can only add 4 tubes to the system, 5 tubes in total. This is what it is, but you should be aware of the capacity before ordering. Uniden's previous system, very similar phones and base, only allowed 12 phones, as did some other comparable competitors, at least more than 5. If that's a significant limitation, look elsewhere. The information screen is highlighted but dim, and the numbers are small but on par with similar phones.4. It is not possible to change the banner on phones, which is possible on some competitors. The handsets are marked "HANDSET 1", 2, 3 etc. and cannot be changed. It doesn't matter if you remember which handset is which for a conference call - for example HANDSET 1 could be the handset in the bedroom. You CAN use uppercase and lowercase for directory entries, which is a plus.5. The batteries are typical 2.4v 300mah NiMH batteries which have a limited lifespan but to be honest they are cheap to replace. Phones are pretty cheap to add and replace. Good enough, inexpensive, nice enough cordless phone. Not outstanding, but not bad either. Recommended with comments.
