Review on Heavy Duty IPad Mini 5/4 Case With Pen Holder, 360° Swivel Stand & 3-Layer Protection by Josue Zepeda

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Thick bezel, too close for comfort.

My biggest complaint, and it’s BIG, is the thickness of the front bezel and cutouts. The cutout for the screen is perfect, but so close that with my iPad mini it’s nearly impossible to swipe up to get the task switcher, and interferes with thumbprint ID on the button. This is because the bezel is so thick and cut so close. It seems like a very protective case. I’ll be using it with the shoulder strap daily (if I keep it), so I’m also a little concerned about the strength of the small plastic loops for the strap attachment.I don’t see any vignetting with the rear camera , but there is some with the front due to the thickness of the bezel and cutout. That cutout is a little off.The three buttons work well.ONE MONTH UPDATE 5-27-2020Well. I still have this but I've removed the plastic bezel (front shell), so the silicone is the only thing holding the iPad in (seems like it will hold). That's the only way to get the swipe actions and thumbprint ID to work reliably because of the ridiculous thickness of the bezel. And even then I have to pull the silicone away from the screen first, without touching the screen, to be able to swipe and get to the various controls. I didn't realize how much I use those controls, including the thumbprint ID. The silicone doesn't bother the thumbprint though, just the swiping actions. I tried a couple of folio type cases but the material that holds the iPad has the same problem, it blocks the swipe from edge function. Those got returned right away (thanks revain!).I've also cut off the silicone cover over the Lightning port, that was just too awkward. Haven't cut the cover on the headphone jack yet (also awkward) because I don't use it that much. I may even trim some silicone away from where I swipe from so I don't have to pull it away as much, but I'm wary of weakening it. But then constant pulling on it might do the same thing. A dilemma.I left my rating at three stars because I'm still using it, but it's not without modifications. It's not designed to allow full use of the iPad and I think it could be much better without any added cost.

Pros
  • Great case for my iPad and it is very user friendly!
Cons
  • The 360° swivel stand can be unstable, especially if you are using it on an uneven surface
