The red color is more like rust - just what I wanted. Gray (yes, I ordered two) is surprisingly neutral. The gold buckles look really good with either color, and the brown lining goes well with both too (yes, gray and brown damn it, but the wallet will do). I grew up and I needed it. It fits a 13-inch MacBook Pro, but if you have a lot of other stuff, things get tight. I was hoping the center zippered compartment would fit a laptop, but unfortunately the zipper is too narrow for a MacBook. So if your main concern is a very roomy bag for your laptop and half your closet then this might not be the case, but with a nice wide base it fits a lot more than you might expect. If you loosen the semi-adjustable buckles, you can easily ditch the shoulder strap and wear it as a handbag or crossbody, which is nice too. And it looks great. A stranger stopped me on the street and praised my purse. Can't beat it
