They work, but not that well. They don't move smoothly - it's fairly common for the rod to get stuck in the canister, making the job a bit rough. Maybe everything will be fixed with use, but I don't expect it. I will probably choose another product to replace it. It's not that easy to open the canister when you need to service it - they haven't machined any of the flat parts on top, so you can get a wrench to get a good grip. Also, one end is all plastic and I doubt it will last very long with heavy use. I've uploaded a photo of the internal mechanism in case anyone wants to study it.
