Big. When It Works

This HUD is a great introductory display for people who are either on a budget or have never used a HUD. It has several options, but the only one that really makes a difference, at least for me, is the mph/km/h display. Let's start with the good - it's compact and very well lit with LEDs so you can see the display. on a plastic screen even at noon on a clear day. This isn't very intrusive in terms of lighting at night, but some may find it too bright. (Brightness setting can be adjusted). The main feature I suspect the most is the mph/km/h display which, with proper calibration, can more or less replace your speedometer. I like that because it makes it easier for me to concentrate on the road. I spend less time looking at the dashboard and more time on the road. That might sound a little weird, until you realize that even half a second looking at the dash at speed means you've traveled a considerable distance. It's nice to keep your eyes closer to the road. It has a number of interesting, if largely unnecessary, features that most drivers will never need to access, but which would be nice in non-routine situations. It is better to have something and not need it than to need it and not have it. The bad thing is that right out of the box you have to attach some sticky stuff to keep it in place. However, this in itself is not that important; If your dash is somehow rounded, you won't be able to place the thing where you ideally want it. We are already in the 21st century. Design flaws like this shouldn't be a problem. Also, the plug you use to communicate with the car is unusually large. This means you may need to remove the protective cover from the OBD interface to connect it. This too is completely unnecessary nowadays. Check how much space you have next to the OBD interface. If you have less than 4-5 inches between the fork and the plate it will not fit. As with many of this company's other HUDs, the menu interface is quite illogical and downright confusing at times, even with the manual. The manual explains things well, but given the number of different submenus and options, you'll want to tear your hair out trying to solve simple problems if you get lost. If you do not set the correct voltage input correctly, the HUD will automatically reset after a few minutes. Again, there are suggestions for this in the manual, but at least on my car it's still a random problem. Also, when you start your car, the device may not turn on or display information such as speed correctly (i.e. the speed will show 0 if you are driving on a highway). The above are my biggest complaints. When this product works I really like it and find it very useful, but I wish it was more reliable. There were times I thought about just uninstalling it because it wouldn't work for 20+ minutes while driving, but it usually sorts itself out after a while. Your experience may differ from this HUD. I will keep it until I can afford a better one and/or until the technology matures a bit. Great when it works, gross when it doesn't. you have been warned
