Review on 6204 2RS Sealed Bearing: Lubricated Power Transmission Products for Enhanced Performance (20X47X14) by Darnell Murphy

Not to be used as a sealed bearing, bad seals

So these bearings were about $2.75, the local parts store wanted a lot more than this bearing so I figured what the heck I'll try these. Well, upon closer inspection you can definitely tell that they were made at a low price, the seal is not tight and has gaps around it meaning the grease leaks out when it gets hot. So I removed one of the seals when rebuilding a lubricated spindle and figured I'd just lubricate it from time to time rather than the fully sealed bearings which contain their own grease. As soon as I removed the seal I saw that they weren't packaged very well or even contained decent lube. I guess what I mean is if you want a cheap bearing that you're going to want to lube anyway, give it a try, but if you want a fully sealed assembly I'll probably look for something better. I can't comment on the durability as I just bought it.

Pros
  • Ball bearing
Cons
  • Expensive
