Review on ๐Ÿž Progressive International Sugar ProKeeper Bread Storage: Your Solution to Fresh & Moist Breads, 1 Piece by Steve Stone

Decent upgrade.

This review relates to the new Bread ProKeeper. I have previously purchased the Original Breadkeeper and have been pleased with how it keeps my sandwiches fresh without having to use and throw away plastic bags. However, I didn't like the small chopping board that came with it (it smelled funny). I didn't care for the "dial" of freshness, and getting the bread, slicing it, and putting it back in the box was at least two hands. It also did absolutely nothing against fruit flies. The new ProKeeper is now available and I grabbed it to see if it would solve my fruit fly problem. No, it ended up NOT being useful for fruit fly protection, but I'm still happy with my purchase for the following reasons. No more juggling a box in the air to get my bread. Open the front cover, take out the bread, cut it and put it back. Much less production.2. No more "freshness" dial. I don't store my bread until it's completely cool, so I don't use that part of the box. The handle is locked and cannot be accidentally opened. The lack of a dial to hit that would dry out the bread makes it a winner for me.3. smells better Even after more than a year of use, airing and frequent washing of the old box, the old box still smells of "plastic", probably from a cutting board. There is practically no smell in the new box.4. Better cutting board. Apart from being odorless, the new cutting board feels more durable and resists scratches better.5. looks cooler I easily store an 8x5 pan sandwich in these boxes. Presumably, it can be easily stretched into a Pullman loaf. He cannot handle boules that are baked in an 8-inch Dutch oven a la tartin or without kneading. However, when I make one of these, I simply cut the ball in half and keep each half in a separate box, cut side down. This works very well, but due to the closed atmosphere, the crust loses some of its crispiness. I fight fruit flies by wrapping the whole box in a kitchen towel. I think with a new box it will be easier as there is only one entrance to indicate where two halves fit together In the old box flies might have entered the center and the dial but most flies seem to have entered through the dial be.
