I have 2 StarTech external USB 3.0 docking stations that I have used successfully for years with WD Blue 5400rpm 5TB drives and some lower capacity older drives. The second was bought on 06/25/2017, the first earlier. The format got aborted halfway through 8TB and then I couldn't restart the computer until I disabled StarTech. I tried formatting with the 2nd StarTech and got the same error. I should clarify that I made a FULL format and not a quick version which takes about a day for an 8TB drive. I always do a full format for each new drive. To make sure the USB ports on my computer were still working, I plugged in my phone and was able to upload the photos. SSD drives. Keep in mind that I always do a FULL NTFS format for all new drives, not a quick version. My 2 StarTech external docks are now useless! I liked that they had a fan to keep the drive cool. I used Speccy to check the hard drive temp and it was well below the warning threshold so I don't think this was a problem. I have the following Sabrent USB 3.1 External SATA Hard Drive Dock for 2.5" or 3.5" HDD, SSD [includes Type-C and Type-A cables, supports UASP drives and 10TB] (DS -UTC1) and works without problems. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07B3S5FSF
