Simple solution for additional storage for DVR

I have a top notch Tivo DVR, I thought I had enough capacity to record 4TB but not enough time to watch all the shows I really like so my 4TB Memory reduced to 18% the remaining space. My choice was to catch up, remove or increase the storage capacity. So I bought this along with custom 2 (1) Terabyte Revain SSDs which I installed in a removable enclosure connected to my Tivo's eSATA port and then powered the inventory and now I have (1 ) terabytes of additional storage, and when it's full, Iโ€ฆ

Well, you can pay less for an eSATA docking station. However, my experience is that this product really is worth every penny spent.

I tried two other cheaper brands before finding a reliable eSATA docking station for my Windows 10 computers. I've found that the prices of StarTech products remain surprisingly stable. I suspect their quality convinces their customers that StarTech products are worth a little more than they're worth. When trying to find a decent docking station, I used the same cables and connectors. Only the StarTech dock did all the tasks I asked it to do. From bulk copying to important archives, I wasโ€ฆ

Good case if your drives are 6TB or less. NOT suitable for 8TB enterprise drives.

After reading a comment about a user being able to use Seagate 8TB backup drives, I ordered a couple of these drives. While they work great with 6TB or smaller drives, they will NOT work with larger drives. The 8TB Seagate Archive drive is provided, but the read/write speeds are terribly slow. Maybe because of the SMR technology. Worse still, they don't mount 8TB Enterprise Seagate drives. Doesn't show up on Mac desktop, be it OS X 11 or 12. Tried different Macs but didn't help. Then I triedโ€ฆ

FAILED to format a new 8TB Seagate Exos 7E8 7200RPM hard drive!

I have 2 StarTech external USB 3.0 docking stations that I have used successfully for years with WD Blue 5400rpm 5TB drives and some lower capacity older drives. The second was bought on 06/25/2017, the first earlier. The format got aborted halfway through 8TB and then I couldn't restart the computer until I disabled StarTech. I tried formatting with the 2nd StarTech and got the same error. I should clarify that I made a FULL format and not a quick version which takes about a day for an 8TBโ€ฆ

The best dock you can buy if you are looking for one, this is it!

This is an absolutely superb hard drive docking station. I have used hard drive docking stations for years and this is by far the best device I have ever used. Before purchasing this Startech docking station, I used Vantec Nexstar products with no problems. However, my recent purchase of an updated product from this company resulted in a very unpleasant experience. I've had occasional USB 3.0 disconnects with a competitor and general unreliability in general. I'm happy to report that I've hadโ€ฆ
