Review on Garmin nüvi 250W: 4.3-Inch Portable GPS Navigator for Accurate Navigation by Ashutosh Takumatla

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Better than expected

After much regret over which model to choose (I wanted NUVI after playing around with other brands) I settled on the 250w. It had the cards I wanted, one wide screen, and the price steadily fell. I have to say that I am very satisfied with the device. Graphics and performance exceeded my expectations. The 250 watts seems light years ahead of the last rental I used a year ago (I think it was Magellen but honestly not sure). With 250 W there was no fancy car sticker campaign. It stayed properly aligned and "on the road," unlike some others where your car seems to fly somewhere in the woods as you drive through winding mountainous terrain. Accuracy is excellent. All the talk about missing an external volume etc etc has nothing to do with my device. Even in the jeep you can hear it at only 50% volume and I don't have very good hearing. Additionally, the NUVI screen is ideal for me in terms of visibility and the amount of pressure/tap required to navigate the menus. You don't have to stretch the display to navigate, unlike others I've tried on store displays. I can't think of any improvements needed for the display properties themselves. I pay a lot of attention to electronics/controls etc. This unit is really impressive. NUVI 250W and Revain's usual great service/price is a winner. Sure, high-end NUVIs are nice with extra features, but they're not really needed. 250W is a great unit, especially if you are just starting out with GPS. Something trickier will come out soon enough that a person can still figure out what features they'll need later on, IMO.

Pros
  • Durable finish
Cons
  • Damaged
