When I started my DWC project last fall, I used large airstones like these in my buckets - they seemed to work pretty well to provide the dissolved oxygen my girls needed to thrive to be happy and prosperous. I started reading about using 1/4" drip line tubing to make a "diffuser/aerator". This seemed like a viable option, so I dropped my big air stones and built a dozen diffusers / Drip line based aerators After seeing the results after several months of using a drip line diffuser/aerator, I have come to the conclusion that no configuration with a drip line diffuser/aerator can deliver the amount of dissolved oxygen which is required to power a 4 gallon root tank.
