Review on IOGEAR 4-Port DVI KVMP Switch with Full Cable Set: Ultimate TAA Compliant Solution by Greg Bellman

The IOGEAR KVMP switch has been a great switch for me. I used to buy a KVM switch for a few bucks more, it was smaller and not as feature rich. I couldn't get it to work properly so I returned it and then bought the Revain IOGEAR KVMP switch. When I first plugged it in, it didn't recognize my keyboard or mouse. I called tech support and was quickly put through to a man who was a bit blunt at first but became friendlier as the conversation progressed. Advice. Do not use a speakerphone when calling technical support. Upon hearing my gear and settings, he expressed confidence that everything would work out well for us. He was right! One of the main features of this switch (and probably all switches) is that you need to download drivers on each computer for each device that connects directly to the KVMP switch. For example, in my case, I first had to connect the keyboard and mouse directly to each computer's USB port, let the drivers load, THEN connect the keyboard and mouse to the IOGEAR KVMP. At this point the Switch recognized the keyboard and mouse and everything worked fine. During a phone call, a tech support rep gave me a quick guide on how to set up hotkeys to switch between computers. He set everything up so that I could just press ctrl-ctrl-enter and be transferred from one computer to another. I also use a different hotkey combination. I can't stream music on my work laptop. I can only do this from my home computer. So he convinced me to study the manual, which I did. I've used very simple function key combinations that I can use to direct the Switch to stream audio from my home PC to the speakers while using my work laptop on the docking station. That works great! I really like this feature! I would highly recommend this switch to others. It may take a bit of work to get everything set up for your setup, but once set up properly everything works fine. The IOGEAR customer support is also a nice bonus! The Switch has many features with the ability to use hotkeys. Unlike other switches, IOGEAR KVMP switch has a very solid construction. I've found that other switches at this price point tend to be very pliable and light, causing the switch to wobble under the weight of the attached cables. Not this switch. It's very durable and sits flat on my desk even with a mountain of cables attached. If you want to stack multiple IOGEAR switches, that's no problem. The legs of one fit into the recesses of the other. A very good feature. Highly recommended by a buyer who is very happy with this device!
