Review on SHIMANO PD M9100 Pedal Cleat Included by Jim Bethea

These premium pedals have a serious known design flaw

Bought to replace an old set of XTR pedals when the axle broke after 8 years. At first glance they appear to be a well built premium pedal. They are light and the engagement is strong and light. The problem, however, is that after only 100 miles of driving, the dust seal failed on both sides. I pushed them back in with my fingernail, but they immediately popped out. It's too early to tell, but I bet these pedals will fail prematurely because of dust, water, or dirt getting into the bearings. A quick internet search shows that this problem is common and well known, but there is no other solution than to buy a different pedal model or brand. If they fail (and I'm sure they will), I'll buy a set of crazy brothers.

Pros
  • Very good value for money
Cons
  • fragile
