MePhoto to the rescue!

The MeFoto tripod is not a cheap tripod. I bought it based on all the rave reviews and the fact that I need a lightweight and portable tripod for travel and trips. I have a Slik tripod that weighs about three times as much and much more when folded and overall size. I wasn't sure what to expect but was very pleasantly surprised. What bothered me is that I found a tripod that was A) lightweight and easy to travel and carry around without much fanfare. B) Can comfortably hold a full frame DSLR with a decent lens without fear of bending over or tipping over and can carry up to 20lbs. (Nikon D700 with grip + larger lenses) C) can carry any ball head and/or comes with a decent head that can actually carry some weight. MeFoto happily meets all my criteria! The ball head that the tripod comes with is detachable and you can easily screw on any ball head you want. I tried one of my "ball heads" (more like a pistol grip ball head) which I really like and it just didn't make sense on this tripod. I found the MeFoto ball head more than adequate to hold my D700 with a Grip + Tamron 70-300 lens without a bit of movement. This little ball head is amazing. It's sleek, easy to use and I love it. Would love to find an exact ball head replacement for my other tripods and monopods. I would buy several. If anyone knows of a purchase-only replacement please email me here! Road Trip comes with 5 retractable legs. I was skeptical about the "pivoting" legs that come from the lever type and found that I really like these legs! Legs easily extend or fold and stay securely in place. I can easily pull these legs out and set them up in front of my old smooth tripod with "lever" legs. I find that I prefer to tune 4 of the 5 legs by leaving the last segment folded. The tripod seems to be a bit more stable when using a heavy setup. It's not that I don't tune and trust all five legs. Just for my purposes of testing and using this has worked for me so far. Extending the column allows me to see well through the viewfinder without much discomfort, and I may need to lean a little. I'm 5ft 10" and have no problem with that. A nice zippered nylon bag is included. There is a small storage bag inside the bag. , sand, snow, mud, ice and slush. There is an Allen key to adjust as needed. There is a hook at the bottom of the column to hang your bag for stability. I've used this one and hung my 20 without any problems. This made it possible to perfectly fix the tripod and limit its movement in windy weather. The monopod idea is also a great idea. I tried to assemble the tripod by unscrewing and assembling the soft leg and stand, which took 30 seconds max. I haven't tried using it for real projects yet, but I don't see any problems with it. Slik stays in my truck and can go on little trips or sights nearby. I want a tripod that I can attach to my backpack or throw some luggage in without taking up a lot of space and adding a lot of weight. I need a stable tripod that doesn't bother me. I need a tripod that is durable and easy to use. MeFoto Road Trip is a tripod. You will hardly find a tripod in this class and price with this fit, finish, ease of use and features. I recommend the MeFoto Road Trip series for most DSLRs! You can find images of MeFoto settings and sizes in the comments section of this post.
