Nice practical tool pocket counter for everyday use with auto shut off

I have been using this 411 meter for about 10 years and it continues to work well as a counter to keep in my tool bag at all times. The main problem with this is the auto-off feature, which is annoying and a bit dangerous. I work a lot with 480V circuits and if I try to find voltage readings and then do something in between I can go back to what I was doing and it still reads voltage but then NOTHING and it is may not be clear what he did. Automatic shutdown trick. Why disconnect if it's been used recently? I can see the auto shut off works after about 15 minutes of NOT USE but if I am using the meter or have used it in the last 5 minutes then WTF? So now I know I always have to use non-contact detectors, but they were problematic for me as they kept giving me failures, so I learned to use the NCV detector, which makes it clear that it works with light, that always a little lit. or blinks a little. I have had to disassemble and deoxit clean this unit many times as I work in a very corrosive ammonia gas environment and ammonia corrodes copper. Yes, with a good cleaning, this meter will continue to work after being dropped several times and going through about 8 leads. I'm not sure I'd recommend it due to the lack of an auto-off feature, but I like the MANUAL range selection and FAST response times, as well as the easy-to-read screen, even if the backlight doesn't last long enough. I bought a much better Greenlee meter but it's so big and the auto range is annoying so I chose this Extech for everyday work. For example, when I read in ohms, I want to be clear about what that means. I want to know if it's 23.8 ohms or 23.8 kohms, and with manual selection I can be sure of which range I'm in without having to fiddle with knobs to select different ranges with others Show features I don't need right now. The Greenlee is much better suited for electronic work and increased accuracy, but it sucks for everyday work. So a high-end meter might not be exactly what you need when considering a basic multimeter and how to use it. I think this counter is a worthy contender if the auto-off issue can be resolved.
