Unfortunately, Western Digital's quality standards seem to have dropped a bit. The Scorpio Blue drive does well: fast, fairly quiet overall, and not very hot. It also didn't affect the performance of my system in any way. It was easy to install and pretty light. So what's the problem? qualitative. Within six months, bad sectors started appearing and I lost some of my data without even knowing it. Once when I tried to create a backup, my computer just choked up and then said "Cannot read file". I ran some tests on Windows and found nothing. I had to install WD diagnostic software to find out I had bad sectors. Are you tracking an issue? WD's (and the industry's) approach to warranty repairs. They wanted me to pay for the disc to be returned. I just do not understand. If the drive you're behind fails during the warranty period and I lose data, why would *I* pay more money to have it replaced? I didn't buy the hard drive for the product but for the service it was able to provide me. THAT must be guaranteed. The incredible amount of time and effort I had to put into backing up my data, replacing the drive, getting my computer running again - simply guaranteed that WD will refund some of my money instead of making me have to spend more money to get a replacement hard drive! To be fair, after numerous emails, WD agreed to pay for the return shipping. Is it supposed to be that hard guys? Just make a working disk that won't fail. By the way, my removable drive is also making strange noises, but it still doesn't show any bad sectors. I'm crossing my fingers but my next hard drive won't be WD.
