WD Scorpio Blue drives offer high-performance, low power consumption, and cool operation, perfect for notebooks. WD's ShockGuard technology protects the drive mechanics and platter surfaces from shocks. 640 GB capacity holds up to 128,000 digital photos, 160,000 MP3 files, and up to 77 hours of HD video.

2/2 Drive failures so far

I like WD and usually have good luck with their drives. Unfortunately, that slice is a lemon. Bought a new 2010 13.3 MBP (Mac Book Pro). I got this drive for an upgrade so I can run both OSX and Win 7 and have plenty of room for data. Disc 1 was inherently problematic. Lots of freezes etc. I ran the WD diagnostics from the website - the drive failed a quick test. I ordered another one from Amazon and got a refund for this one. I'm Amazon Prime and I love it as I can ship within 2 days at no…

Durable, reliable and fast drive for your laptop

Let's start by saying that I am an IT professional and have a lot of experience with IT equipment (over 30 years). Since 1995 I have also been doing PC repairs part-time. I know what I am doing. I've been a fan of Western Digital (WD) drives for a number of years. I only use WD products when I need to replace the HDD (hard drive). I recently bought a Dell Vostro laptop with a 320GB hard drive. I use it to record videos and dub DVDs, to host an I-Tunes server and as a repository for our digital…

Now that I've looked at the reviews this drive has a lot of issues

I bought this because I wanted to upgrade my PS3's 80GB hard drive as it's currently full. After getting it, I decided to pop it into my laptop and swap it out for my three current 2.5 inch hard drives. I cloned my existing 250GB Western Digital Scorpio Black hard drive to it with some issues. Fixed some issues because my Vista partition was cloned incorrectly and the MBR was corrupted as well. After the repair it worked great. Some time. Then I decided to upgrade my other partition, Xubuntu…

Great hard drive replacement

So my other drive in my Dell laptop reported a hard drive failure (very upset as it wasn't even 2 years old). I went to staples. They wanted over 150.00 to replace the drive. A friend said it was a minor thing and sent me a video. I bought this drive (exactly the same as my laptop) and it arrived very quickly. Was well packaged and the box was not damaged (I know this is an issue as this is a fragile device). Cloning my drive to this drive went smoothly (another piece of hardware I bought from…

Works well if not badly.

Unfortunately, Western Digital's quality standards seem to have dropped a bit. The Scorpio Blue drive does well: fast, fairly quiet overall, and not very hot. It also didn't affect the performance of my system in any way. It was easy to install and pretty light. So what's the problem? qualitative. Within six months, bad sectors started appearing and I lost some of my data without even knowing it. Once when I tried to create a backup, my computer just choked up and then said "Cannot read file"…

Excellent quality - data storage

I bought this to upgrade the hard drive in my Acer Extensa 4620 laptop. It is rated for about the same power consumption as the 120G Hitachi it replaced. It's a little quieter when seeking, but a little louder when turning up/down. And it seems to shift up and down a little more than the Hitachi. But I get 5+ times more space for the same battery life, so I have nothing to complain about. Download the imaging tool from the WD website, transfer the old drive to the new one and swap it out. It…

3 years later and still as quiet as a mouse

Minor update since purchasing this product from Revain.com in October 2009. This hard drive was purchased specifically for my Playstation 3 and can I say, it still is flawless! This product is a cotton item. My PS3 is still very quiet, very fast, smooth and GREAT. Yes, sometimes I accidentally left my PS3 on all day only to come back and find my PS3 on, but only because I noticed the green light on the PS3 was on (indicating the system was powered on). Surprisingly, the PS3 stayed cool for the…
