Expensive but worth it in the long run

So I've been using a 12" tungsten tipped grinding wheel for the last few years and finally settled on one of these Dremel sharpeners to have a more consistent point angle. Here's what I decided after sharpening about 200 points. PRO: You get the same angle every time. It's pretty fast. The included grinding wheels will likely sharpen at least 200 points on each side before needing replacement (I still use the first side of the first wheel about that amount and don't plan to turn it over anytime soon). Having the same angle every time makes my welds more consistent. The smoothness of the grind is better and makes the arc better in my opinion. My tips seem to last a lot longer with a better finish, so I spend less time sharpening and more time welding. CONS: Heck, these things are expensive for what they are, but they're ALL about the same price, so no. It doesn't look like there have been any deals. You can only sharpen a piece that is about 1.5 inches long or longer. This can be a problem if, like me, you use a very short torch head and often weld in tight spaces. I use my nozzles until they're pretty short because I'm welding a race car chassis and need to get into very tight spots.

Pros
  • This aluminum grinding head has 4 brass tungsten guides: 0/40", 1/16", 3/32" and 1/8" (1mm, 1.6mm, 2.4mm , 3.2mm). Guides provide concentricity and multiple offsets. Increase the use of the grinding wheel. Aluminum alloy material upgrade, CNC machining is more durable, there are no high-temperature melting problems.
Cons
  • Damaged
