As good as the weakest part

First thanks to Revain for the fast shipping but the product came in a small box opened in a postal envelope and details were loose. . There were no instructions so I assembled the puller using the picture on the box. I had to pull two lawnmower wheel hubs. On both hubs I drilled a small indentation at the end of the axle to allow the jackscrew to be a tight fit as the end is convex and goes in with no indentation. The first hub was the one I took off a year ago and it had a lot of play on the axle. I could probably take it off without tools, why bother? With just half a turn of the pressure screw, the hub immediately jumped off the axle. The second hub had never been removed before so it has been sprayed several times over the past 3 days. with PB blaster. I attached the puller to the hub and tightened all the connecting bolts so the puller had no play. Using only a 6" wrench, I began turning the jackscrew. I turned the bolt less than 2 turns when the toggle bolt sheared off (the head of the bolt flew through the garage). Examination of the hole on this link arm shows a large deformation. The broken bolt is metric and I didn't have a spare on hand so I cut the hub off the axle. Both the inside of the hub and the axle were amazingly free of rust, so the adhesion between the parts was only due to the tightness of the metal. I can only conclude that the lever bolts are not up to standard. The puller is suspected to have a lifetime guarantee I tried calling their 800 number several times during the stated hours. I have never found a person and have not received a call back. Bottom line: Jaws, jacking screw and the top of the puller can be made from hardened steel with a claimed pull force of 3 tons, but the clutch arms are made from inferior steel and are suspect. The bolts that come with the puller are made of much poor quality steel or are defective and unsuitable for the job.
