After using a few motorized plastic juicers and getting tired of them snapping gears, I was talked into buying this low tech juicer. We juice about 10 lemons or limes a week and a few grapefruits. It's not as easy as electric, but obviously it will last long after I'm gone. It's not as fast as electric, but much quieter. And it takes up less closet/drawer space, which is always a plus. The other alternative was one of those big metal juicers, but I don't have the space to put it aside and I don't like leaving appliances on my countertop that I don't use all the time. Tip: Remove the lid from the bottom pan before pouring - it does have a pouring hole but it only works if you pour very slowly (e.g. into a measuring spoon). Also, wash it as soon as possible after use and remove the pulp slightly, then throw it in the dishwasher. If you wait until after dinner or until the next morning, then there's more work to be done. Bottom line: if you don't mind a little extra arm/wrist/hand juice training, go ahead and do it the old-fashioned way. take one of these. At least you won't be changing it every 14 months like electric ones with cheap plastic gears.
