They work, but they're not perfect.
Certainly makes speaker placement easier. The design could use some improvements. The metal tabs don't actually stay in the plastic tabs, you'll need either a small screw or tape to secure them. In the end, it doesn't matter because once the drywall is in place, it serves no purpose, so it should last long enough that the drywall crew doesn't mess it up too much.
