I like to keep a few backups on hand as I have been collecting anime CDs and DVDs for over two decades. Some of these were fansubs sold on ebay that cannot be played on all devices. Some of these are foreign-made versions that aren't made for North America, so it's good to have a device that can play both. With the exception of some of my more modern bluerays (which don't support this), I have a lot of old low and medium resolution DVDs. They're slightly improved and will display better, at least in 1080P mode, on an HDTV as that device can upscale.
