Review on πŸ”Š Tendak Soundbar Amplifier with Extractor Converter by Carlos Phillips

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Works as intended, MUST use a good power source

I got this because I use active monitors for TV audio in my bedroom. Usually you use an audio interface on your desk to adjust the volume, but since I'm using it with a TV I need to be able to adjust the volume with the remote control. I only want to use one remote with my TV, so either Fire Stick or Roku Remote with volume control. This device comes into play because it connects to the ARC connector, which allows the TV to send a volume control signal to it. The adapter has cinch L/R and a headphone jack, which can be controlled with the volume control on the TV remote control via ARC. Please note that SPDIF (optical) only transmits a digital signal and is not controlled by the volume output of the TV. Testing this unit with an LG TV using the Fire Stick input on HDMI 1 and a short HDMI cable connected to HDMI 2 (ARC) and connected to an audio extractor appears to work as expected. The volume control on the LG remote sends a signal to the audio extractor and changes the output volume on both the RCA jack and the headphone jack. I use RCA to connect my active monitors. Another use case would be to connect the RCA outputs to a small amplifier and use them to drive bookshelf speakers. Both installations allow you to install the device on the entire wall without a receiver. which is perfect for a bedroom with limited space. My main problem with this device and the reason for the 4 stars is that you cannot use a low quality USB power adapter. I have tried all my phone chargers, USB chargers and even power banks. Since there is an amp that produces RCA and a headphone output, it uses the 5V input to power itself. The internal power supply doesn't filter very well, so you can hear the internal switching of low-quality USB chargers. I ended up using my TV's USB output to power it, but I'd rather run it on 120V. So be aware that you need headphones, if you can hear static or other noise without HDMI connection another source nutrition. And just because a charger is high quality doesn't mean it's pure 5V for powering audio equipment. So note that if you plug in headphones and can hear static or other noise without an HDMI connection, you'll need a different power source.
