I find these knee pads to be the perfect balance of PROTECTION, COVERAGE and COVERAGE. And all this for what I think is a great price. While writing this review from a footballer's point of view, I think my critique will be useful for other uses: home improvement projects, auto repair, construction, hunting, snowboarding, volleyball, and more. As a football goalkeeper on my team, I've tried different brands of knee pads to protect myself from hard falls on the pitch. I have found that any brand of knee pad is a compromise between three factors: 1) PROTECTION. If your primary concern is to protect your knees from impact on the field, grass or hardwood, you should opt for a more bulky knee pad - either with very thick padding or maybe even with a hard outer shell. These types of bulky knee pads give you great protection, but the downside is that their bulk limits your range of motion and overall mobility. 2) COVER. Sometimes the impact occurs just above, below, or to the side of the kneecap. Ideally, you want the kneecap to provide at least some level of protection to the area around the kneecap. 3) FIT AND FEEL. This is an important factor that is often overlooked. The last thing you have to do is adjust the position of the knee pad after every sprint, slide or impact with the ground. What if the game goes on and you don't have time to reset them? In this case, when your knee pads are crooked, they don't even give you proper protection and coverage, defeating the whole purpose of wearing them! After several workouts and games with the McDavid Hexpad Knee Pads, I have found that they offer the best balance of PROTECTION, COVERAGE and FIT & FEEL. Your designs are unlike anything I've seen before. They use multiple nickel-sized pads that are slightly spaced to offer better range of motion and flexibility. The rest of the fabric is 80% nylon and 20% elastane for superior flexibility and body fit. Even after hard hits and duels, they almost never slip. All in all, these knee pads protect you while allowing freedom of movement and more "bounce". I bought the size X-Large and they fit me perfectly. Also, I should note that I only used this product for knee pads; the manufacturer says they also act as elbow pads.] I used to use the "Adult Reusch Kevlar Knee Guard" which put more emphasis on protection. And while they protected my knees fairly well, they were bulky and limited my movement, range of motion, and punching power. Also, they tended to slip and slide after almost every hit, causing me to have to constantly adjust them throughout the game. Again, I've found the McDavid Hexpad Knee Pads to offer the best balance of PROTECTION, COVERAGE, and FIT AND FEEL. And all this for what I think is a great price.
