Update: It's essentially a stack of fabric that's pressed together and shaped, with a shank being a large-diameter screw that's driven into the stack. The "head" of a wood screw is a hex shank for a drill or screwdriver. I learned the hard way that if you lean too far, the screw will "break" out of the fabric pile, and now the whole thing spins freely at the slightest touch.
