I don't know what's so great about this tiny radio other than its size. Am I malfunctioning? My reference was the Degen-DE797, similar to the Degen DE333 (but red with black faceplate) which is similar to this model, the Kaito KA200. ALL models work the same way and ALL have controls in the same locations on each radio. I wouldn't be surprised if Kaito and Degen radios are made in the same factory. The difference is in the tuners and the sound quality. They get interested in the local sports program, game by game, while watching the game. It basically works for this function. You can pick up a local AM station. Don't worry about aiming for DX; This one won't do it to pull AM stations hundreds of miles away. Of course it does NOT have that DSP footstep noise. This feature becomes obsolete very quickly. The sound quality is NOT tinny, just flat. The Degen models had a richer tone. i will be honest The sound quality was better on the Degen model. I read the Kaito KA200 reviews and thought it might be the best choice and price. Unfortunately it wasn't that good. And on FM, a strong station tends to spill onto other frequencies. You do not want that. Again, the sound quality was better on the Degen models. I had imagined it better. This one was just ok. This is still a good radio for your emergency kit. Before I had the Degen model, I had a Sony ICF-S10MK2. It's still a winner of all, and it's a 20-year-old radio. ***** I tested the radio again on Saturday morning, four days after the first impression. Here is a continuation with a picture of two radios. ***** I really want to like this radio (Kaito KA200) MORE RED (Degen DE797) on the left side of the picture. I tested it the day I received it and four days later to decide if it's worth keeping. The Kaito KA200 suffices as a radio checklist element for your emergency kit. You get what you paid for. This is where it changes: I can use weaker FM stations with a Degen radio, e.g. B. a low-band transmitter, which I can normally only receive when I am near the physical location of that transmitter and possibly within the city limits of near that location. With Kaito, this is limited. It's easy to get to a train station in nearby San Jose, California. but the Redwood City station is not an option. With an AM station, the strong station (KGO) and local AM will be tuned in, but not the weaker stations. Although the tuner is smoother and simpler with the Kaito, strong stations trickle into other frequency bands. It's noticeable on FM, not so much on AM. The Kaito's sound quality is fine for local AM talk or sports radio. If these are your requirements, this will work. On Degen I was impressed by the sound quality of the jazz and classical music stations there. It's also good for a rock station. Also, I can't tune those stations with Kaito. For a cheap radio I wanted it to be a little better than near mediocre. Someone may object that I'm too picky. You may be right. My ambition was not just to find a good little radio that could not only be used as an emergency kit checklist but also served to friends for their needs and that they could enjoy as much as I did. You respect my opinion. You know I'm interested in small radios. Even if it's a cheap item, they believe it will be a choice because I've spent time researching the quality of the item. I don't want to let them down by giving them what I didn't like. When there are no other options, the Kaito KA200 is on the list of good things to have on hand. At the moment this is not the case. However, if you have to choose, you can find a comparable Degen model. and so you can enjoy it as much as I do. You respect my opinion. You know I'm interested in small radios.
