Disclosure: I'm not a macro expert. I bought this to help with fine focusing when scanning negatives with my a7Rii and Nikkor 55mm AI mic with extension tube. Works fine for my purposes. It has a solid construction and I like the clutch to get a lot of movement. The only downside I'd like to mention is that the platter has good panning play when you unlock it to fine-tune focus. If you're looking for extreme percussion, this might be a hurdle for you. Otherwise I am very satisfied with the product.
